1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it’s over.
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
Susan/Caspian is the inspiration for these drabbles.
1) Midicronica – San Francisco
Walking, walking, walking. That was all they did. Of course, Susan knew they had no other choice. They had to get to wherever it was these Creatures and Prince Caspian were taking them. It was their duty as Kings and Queens to help save Narnia.
But still, walking everywhere? Surely someone had a horse…
Though, it wasn’t all bad. Susan often found Caspian staring at her.
And she liked it.
2) Phantom Planet – Wishing Well
Susan sat by the well, long dried up from lack of use. And yet she stayed there all day, and remained even after the sun had begun to sink below the horizon.
She was tired of her life after Narnia, her life after him.
Every time she saw anything in London that reminded her of Narnia, she thought of his eyes. And it hurt her more every time.
So, with one final wish, though she was confident it wouldn’t come true, she flicked a coin into the empty well and made her way to her empty home.
Past all the signs and the sins of her modern world.
3) The Piano Soundtrack – A Wild and Distant Shore.
He was there. Caspian was on the shore, staring off into the distance.
He couldn’t see her.
Susan couldn’t believe she was back in Narnia, and yet…it wasn’t her Narnia. There was peace all around, she could feel it. But her heart raced with the possibility of finally being with Caspian again.
Forever.
So she ran to him. She ran with every last ounce in her tired, broken body, and felt herself slip deeper into the sand.
It was slowing her down!
And when she fell, hands and knees burying themselves in the wet sand, she began to cry.
For on that distant shore, Caspian had embraced his wife, the daughter of a Star.
Even here, after her terrible death in England, Susan had no peace. She cried louder, wept harder, and sank deeper into the sand. She wanted it to eat her whole, to let her hear and see and feel no more.
Until a warm breath surrounded her.
“Aslan?” she whispered in astonishment. The Great Lion stood in front of her, not smiling as she wanted him to, but looking at her with a deep hurt in his honey-filled eyes. He blinked and Susan saw herself reflected in his eyes. What a sight she looked.
Embarrassed and ashamed with herself, she stopped her weeping.
4) Flogging Molly – From the Back of a Broken Dream
The war was over.
And now there was cause for celebration.
The night was young and surprisingly enough, some Telmarine soldiers joined the Narnians in the dancing and singing and drinking. Mostly the drinking.
Caspian nursed his ale and watched everything with a happy look in his eye. Especially when Susan danced with Lucy. He loved the way she moved, the way she laughed, the way she smiled.
He wanted so badly to tell her how he was beginning to feel about her.
5) Spring Awakening Soundtrack – The Guilty Ones
Lucy and Susan departed the train at their stop. It was time to go back to school, start their normal lives over again.
Lucy couldn’t stand it. “Would you have stayed with him?”
Susan absent-mindedly responded, “What?”
“Would you have stayed with Caspian if things had been different?”
Susan looked away and thought about him, about Caspian. She remembered the kiss, the way it had been rushed and unplanned and completely not her.
That touch would haunt her forever.
She never answered Lucy’s question.
6) Immediate Music – Lucius Dei
He watched as she nearly fell from the How. And inside, he prayed to Aslan, to whatever angelic servants he had, that she would be safe. So when she landed on the stone frame of the entrance with a loud, “Oof!” he internally screamed with joy that she had made it. Glancing at the sky, Caspian noticed the Griffins continuing the air assault.
Surely there were angels in Narnia.
7) Nickel Creek – First and Last Waltz
He dreamed. He dreamed of Susan. He dreamed of kissing her. He dreamed of holding her to him forever.
He dreamed of a waltz they never shared.
He dreamed of her by his side, as his wife.
He dreamed of their children.
They never had this dream.
And Caspian awoke saddened.
8) Pocahontas Soundtrack – John Smith Sneaks Out
Caspian noticed a shadow go by his door. He peeked his head out and saw Susan smile mischievously at him.
He looked both ways before following her and her outstretched hand.
9) Dido – Take My Hand
“I never married because I never truly loved before.”
His eyes filled with hope and worry. “What about now?”
She looked down at their hands, which were empty.
“Take my hand, Caspian.”
He did as commanded and felt a shiver run through her fingers, undoubtedly leading up her arm and throughout her whole body.
She smiled.
“Take your time, Caspian.” Her smiled vanished. “But remember that I’ve always been alone. And I’m quite used to that feeling. I’ll need time for myself to get used to this, now.”
His grip tightened on her hand and he looked directly into her eyes. “I will not let you go so easily.”
Never.
10) Linkin Park – The Little Things Give You Away
It was snowing in May in England. Susan looked out her window and despaired.
She was no longer a hero. What could she possibly do to get rid of this terrible weather? There was no Witch to destroy, no Lion to give of himself so the ice would melt away forever.
She was no longer a hero.
No one looked up to her anymore. She was a simple failure. Humiliated by everything she had ever done. She tried to forget it all.
And when she looked past the snow and toward the sky, she noticed a dark cloud.
Her heart tightened.
No.
His name came unbidden to her lips for the first time in years. “Caspian…”
And as the cloud broke and rain mixed with the snow, Susan felt her last hero and supporter pass away.
