She is a Queen of Old, standing before me. Never in my years would I have expected to see a creature of such quiet beauty, especially this woman who made her mark on Narnia’s surface, even centuries after she danced with every step. And she stands before me.
She is not a statue with a crown of flowers that blow away in a breeze, but a young woman with a crown of dark brown hair to frame her delicate face in that wind. She is as human as I, but with years behind her that I can only hope to uncover one day.
But her eyes strike me more than anything else. The years she has witnessed swim in those dark pools, rising to the surface to take breaths of the present, to stay alive. Despite her bright presence and gentle smile, I see agony, pain, death, war.
And yet she stands before me, as herself in this moment.
