It broke my heart into pieces, but I still like the fic very, very much. It's an unusual moment to depict: right after her last breath. We all know it's painful for Byakuya, but I would think that it must be something horrid at that moment in time. That he threw up in response to his revulsion at the broken shell of her body and his subsequent disgust at himself for thinking such a thing is a jarring image. But it is also believable, relatable, and sympathy-inciting.
I also was appropriately horrified by his contemplation of suicide and truly believed he would do it. Thank goodness he had something to anchor him in this world. I wonder now if Hisana didn't make him promise in order to give him something to hold on from her to keep him in his world. Or it may be that she simply wished to pass on her task to him without another reason. If we keep with the notion that Hisana is a very modest woman, she might not want to be presumptuous in assuming that he would love her enough to try to follow her to death (we know this is entirely possible though, yes?). I don't know.
These two people make me yap on and on, even though I usually try to avoid arguing with people about pairings and what not. ^^; I wish one day someone would write a EPIC fic for these two, starting from the time they first met to a "happily ever after," where Rukia eventually joins them and they can all be a happy family (if a bit dysfunctional :p). With Ichiruki added, hopefully. It's happened with Hajime/Tokio from Rurouni Kenshin (Hajime and Tokio (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1450079/1/Hajime_and_Tokio) by Angrybee). I can keep hoping for these two as well.
